"You are motivated by the desire to do something to help the world suffer less. But to do is just one of the things you can do. To be is another way of doing. If you can be relaxed, if you can be peaceful, if you can be compassionate - that is a lot of action already."

- Thich Nhat Hanh

A young Thich Nhat Hahn in the USA where he met with Martin Luther King during our US Civil Rights Movement. Dr. King nominated young Buddhist Monk Thich Nhat Hahn at that time for the Nobel Prize.
They worked together on nonviolent stragies for social change. During Thich Nhat Hahn's stay in the USA, the Vietnamese government exiled him from his home due to his nonviolent work for peace. Youth from all over Vietnam were flocking to join the Monasteries and the School of Youth for Social Service that Thich Nhat Hahn had founded and this threatened the Vietnamese government. They attacked the Monasteries and exiled Thich Nhat Hahn from Vietnam. Only now, in his old age as he neras death have they allowed him back to his home Vietnam were he is now.
