More than a thousand presentations have been approved that will be presented at the XIII International Convention on Environment and Development, to be held virtually from July 5 to 9 from the Convention Palace of this capital. In a press conference, Maritza García García, president of the Cuban Environment Agency (AMA) and the Organizing Committee, specified that 224 of them belong to foreigners (United States, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Germany, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama and the Virgin Islands) and 855 are national, with representation from all the country's provinces.She added that the dynamic Clickmeeting virtual conference platform will be used for the event, and the theme this time will be Science and awareness for environmental sustainability.This meeting, she continued, will promote cooperation between countries, the exchange of experiences and sustainable practices and the transfer of knowledge, as well as sustained and inclusive economic growth, participatory social development, protection of the environment and the dignity of the human being. .She explained that it will include several spaces with themes of great importance; the XIII Congress on Environmental Education, the XII on Protected Areas, the X on Environmental Management, the VII on Climate Change, the V on Policy, Justice and Environmental Law, the First on Geospatial Sciences and Disaster Risk and the VIII on the management of Ecosystems and Biodiversity, the latter with the largest participation so far.
García García said that a keynote lecture given by prestigious professionals on current issues will be broadcast daily, in tune with sustainable socioeconomic development and the introduction and implementation of science and innovation as axes for that purpose.
He specified that issues such as the one-health approach in Cuba, the role of science in confronting climate change, science and innovation within the framework of food and nutritional sovereignty, and the urgent changes in protected areas will be addressed. to attend post-COVID-19 tourism, and science and technological innovation in solving environmental problems.
As other central activities, he mentioned the cancellation of a postage stamp, a panel on quality management and the experience of Cuban companies in this regard, one on the articulation of international projects led by the AMA, a civil society-Environment meeting, and the inauguration of the Cuban Nature and Environment photographic exhibition.
The previous editions of this convention have achieved an attendance of more than 10 thousand 400 people, approximately 50 percent of them correspond to visitors belonging to more than 60 nations from the five continents.

En conferencia de prensa Maritza García García, presidenta de la Agencia de Medio Ambiente (AMA) de Cuba y del Comité Organizador, precisó que de ellos 224 pertenecen a extranjeros (Estados Unidos, México, España, Italia, Alemania, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panamá e Islas Vírgenes) y 855 son nacionales, con representación de todas las provincias del país.
Añadió que para el evento se utilizará la plataforma dinámica de conferencias virtuales Clickmeeting, y el lema en esta ocasión será Ciencia y conciencia por la sostenibilidad del Medio Ambiente.
Este encuentro, continuó, promoverá la cooperación entre países, el intercambio de experiencias y prácticas sostenibles y la transferencia de conocimientos, así como el crecimiento económico sostenido e inclusivo, el desarrollo social participativo, la protección del entorno y la dignidad del ser humano.
Explicó que incluirá varios espacios con temas de gran importancia; el XIII Congreso de Educación Ambiental, el XII de Áreas Protegidas, el X de Gestión Ambiental, el VII sobre Cambio Climático, el V de Política, Justicia y Derecho Ambiental, el Primero de Ciencias Geoespaciales y Riesgo de Desastres y el VIII sobre manejo de Ecosistemas y Biodiversidad, este último con la mayor participación hasta el momento.
García García dijo que diariamente se transmitirá una Conferencia Magistral impartida por prestigiosos profesionales sobre temáticas actuales, a tono con el desarrollo socioeconómico sostenible y la introducción e implementación de la ciencia y la innovación como ejes en ese propósito.
Especificó que se tratarán cuestiones como el enfoque de una sola salud en Cuba, el rol de la ciencia en el enfrentamiento al cambio climático, la ciencia y la innovación en el marco de la soberanía alimentaria y nutricional, los cambios que urgen en las áreas protegidas para atender el turismo pos-COVID-19, y la ciencia e innovación tecnológica en la solución de los problemas ambientales.
Como otras actividades centrales mencionó la cancelación de un sello postal, un panel sobre la gestión de la calidad y la experiencia de las empresas cubanas en ese sentido, uno de articulación de proyectos internacionales liderados por la AMA, un encuentro sociedad civil-Medio Ambiente, y la inauguración de la exposición fotográfica Naturaleza y Medio Ambiente cubano.
Las ediciones precedentes de esta convención han logrado una asistencia de más de 10 mil 400 personas, aproximadamente el 50 por ciento de ellas corresponde a visitantes pertenecientes a más de 60 naciones de los cinco continentes.
