Life in Havana, Cuba

Thanks to Alisa Froman, ED of Plaza Cuba, a very wonderful arts (music and dance) exchange between the US and Cuba who posted this picture from Central Havana, Cuba some years ago!!!!

It was taken by one of the participants in a Plaza Cuba tour! Typical Cuban scene in a society that is all about friendship, love and being good neighbors!!!

While a slight exaggeration, no one has moved since the Cuban revolution, 1958, which has built very very very very strong communities that are like extended families. 

Cubans already live three generations in one house just like I did as a child growing up in the Bottoms in Columbus, Ohio at my grandmother's house. I was born in 1958, the year of Cuba's revolution. 

My grandmother, my father, one of his brothers, and my mom, his wife and we two children all lived together! Across the street was my father's  best friend, Jr, with whom he grew up and his parents and his children. Three generational households. 

The whole Street, Chappel Street, was like that. Growing up there, my little brother and I and my family were surrounded by community wide three generational love!!! 

And Cuba is just like that!!!! It's all but impossible to be lonely in Cuba consequently!!!! And Cuba is famous for this very strong social fabric. It makes an enormous difference in life!!!! And creates a lot of social peace and LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first visits to Cuba were on my own and then with her music and dance tours which are WONDERFUL!!! VERY WELL DONE!!!! You meet a lot of really wonderful Cuban dancers and musicians, dance and play a lot of music and HAVE A LOT OF FUN!!! You really get to know Cuban people and culture and again have a lot of fun!!!! And Cuban culture is amazing! From West Africa to Indigenous Cuba to Spain and the Arabic culture that first settled what is known as Spain as well as Havana's own China town. These trips also include tours around Havana and the island!!!  I highly recommend!!!!
