"A Letter from Home"

"A Letter from Home:" what my African American peoplezzz called these Watermelons (Rattlesnake Watermelons to be exact,) back in the early 1960's when "The Watermelon Trucks" from Georgia rolled into the beginning of Mt. Vernon Avenue in the old Black Segregated neighborhood. My mother, Frieda Maudette Smith, born in Linconton, GA, grew up there. I and my brother, raised by she and my father, (James Francis Whittaker, born in the neighborhood known as the Bottoms of Columbus, Ohio on the West Side right close to the Scioto River,  grew up about 1 and 1/2 miles from there, down the street, around the corner and through East High School football field. Dey wuz sew guuudddd!!!!!! An de peoples who came wid' em was so warm and somehow familiar.
